Default Saltwater seatrout flies

Hi Craigie,

I do a bit of saltwater seatrout fishing in around strangford lough, by far the best patterns are disturbance flies which I fish right on the surface 8's or 10's standard floating fry or all colours of small poppers are excellent. You can get the popper heads online:
Floating Popper Bodies - Angling Active - Angling Centre Stirling
I have spooned a few and the main food sources are either sandeels, fry or shrimps, if that helps!!
Will tie a few of the patterns over the weekend and post next week.

Tightlines,
Saracen

Default Sea Troot in sea

How is Craigie?
My grandad has been up the Kyle of Tongue a few times and fishes for them in the sea. He tells me they used to use a whiskey fly anything orange was his words. I am planning a trip up there in a few weeks and so will be tying up some with a bit o sparkle.
Let me know how u get on and what patterns do the bizz m8!

Time I fished the sea pools on North Uist I caught a few using a Teal Blue & Silver on a l/s hook, but any streamer type fly in the appropriate colour should do them but they like it quick.

Esk Raider may be on to something with the whiskey (fly aswell). I read an article on salt water fishing and the author said the dunkeld worked very well. His reasoning was that it had the same coloration of pollack fry.

And whispering in their ears
Give them unquiet dreams;
Leaning softly out
From ferns that drop their tears
Over the young streams.
Come away, O human child!
To the waters and the wild
With a faery, hand in hand,
For the world's more full of weeping than you can understand.
