Default Beetle wing material

Last season I found a nice little beetle imitation in the boat at Grafham. It has a 3mm irridescent foil back, and looks very 'takeable'. It doesn't look like any of the tinsels I know (it is too thick for one thing), being very greeish/purplish, and appears to have very fine striations down its length. Any ideas what this material is?

Did the pattern have a foam back that looked like the way you where describing it with a pearly coloured shine to it?
Remember see a pattern like this by someone hughes had a back of foam covered in rafene and the expoxy dust off thta/

It is definitely a foil, so Magic Shrimp Foil is sounding promising. I shall endeavour to find it online, hopefully with a picture.
Thanks.

No, that's not it.The colour is very similar to Uni peacock mylar, though as stated it is approx 3mm wide, and appears to be a metallic foil.

Lureflash do a range of material - could it be this cut to 3mm and in purple

PEARL SHELLBACK (SPECTRAFLASH)(Reference #PSBB)
Yorkshire Game Angling Body Materials

Also GAC do a range - could be one of these, although photos not very good
Pearl Film – Glasgow Angling Centre
Mirage Sheets – Glasgow Angling Centre
Flashback – Glasgow Angling Centre

I am always looking for good beetle patterns for Brenig and Stocks amongst others. Good luck and tight lines,
Neil.

Gwillym gave us a demo of his lifelike beetle and I recall he used the chopped up pearl in varnish - think its epoxy dust in the GAC catalogue..

Neil.

The pearl film from GAC looks useful, even if it isn't the same as on my fly, so I'll order some and see. I'll be visiting the Game Fair so I'll maybe see something there.
Thanks all.

Hello,

Contact Phil Holding on here, Spidersplus, or at his FTB site:
Flytying Boutique - Online shop

Not listed at the moment, but I bought kit from Phil that sounds like your description: "Bill's Iridescent Foil Cloth"
