One of the best patterns for Blagdon & on several anglers secret lists ! Rather than add weight to it, they use different gauge hooks, anything from a b170 through the 400 series to a b175.

A black diawl bach, with a narrow red/green holo rib has been my most productive fly since I started tying my own. Nice example ST

Cheers

That looks great.
Whenever I tie up DBs they are not as sparse as that. Am I doing it wrong?,or is it specifically sparse for where you fish it?
Forgive the ignorance, I'm still new to this tying addiction !!

Cheers,
Gary.

DB's and most nymphs, in my opinion, should be as slim and sparse as possible. I use one peacock herl and even then sometimes give it a haircut.

There aren't many fat nymphs swimming about

Nice tie, as usual.

A good point.
Maybe as a beginner I am too generous with some of my materials.
I think it is about time I put up pics of some of my paltry efforts for critique !!
(Having said that my attempts do catch fish, maybe just not as many as I could be catching.)

The slimmer the better, at least as far as Chew & Blagdon are concerned. For the most effective version, many of our local guys use black dyed peacock with a thinner tinsel.
