Default Is it me??

Is it just me, or do any other fly tiers find they suffer a bad back after a short session of fly tying (1/2 hour or so)? I've tried adjusting seat height, vice positions, etc, but always seem to end up with a sore lower back!!

Do you also suffer this or does anyone have any suggestions that may help?

I'm at odds to think how anyone can do this for a living without ending up like Quasi'...The Bells!!

I reckon you've probably got the vice head set way too low, if you can get it about 9 inches below your line of sight you might find it helps.

all the best

Just an offbeat thought, but you may need to change your glasses if working at a different height.

The type of chair you use can have a great effect on your situation, I use a gas-lift operators chair & that helped me a great deal. Look for one without arms as they can get in the way.

As said, vice height important, mainly so that it is not encouraging bad posture. Your spine should have a nice, gentle "S" shape to it to be fully supported. Had a bad lower back a few years ago, went to the physio, and the first thing she taught me was how to sit down. Funnily enough, I had thought I was pretty good at that. I was wrong!

If you have back pain sitting in a chair after 10 minutes then you already have a back problem im afraid,...certainly helps to adjust things to make it more comfortable.
