Default The Fly Dressers Guild.

I would just like to take a moment to recommend to you all that you join the Fly Dressers Guild. The quarterly magazine alone is worth the subscription fee (£15 pounds - less if you are a pentioner or junior). I have just received this summer's edition and it is superb. It consists of a series of well written short articles and brilliantly photographed step by steps.

Add to that the other benefits of membership, including a 10% discount on goods bought from their trade members, and I honestly believe that anyone serios about fly tying is missing out by not signing up. You can check the FDG out and join up online (click on Membership & Shop) at

The FDG

I have no connection to the leadership of the FDG and have made this post purely as a personal recommendation based on my experience as a member of this organisation.

As founder & life president of a branch of the FDG, I can wholeheartedly agree with the above statements.

I try & mention it for every person here who wishes to either take up or improve their abilities. The branch network is well worth looking into for everyone who either ties or is thinking of starting to tie.

I did try to register to the FDG forum a while ago but gather it is restricted. Since my registration request has never been approved, I assume the reason for that is that I'm not an FDG member... yet?! It's on my list of things to look into further.

Fly Dressers Guild

A worthwhile organisation that I am proud to be member of. However we need active and enthusiastic members who can innovate, instruct and encourage the others to take part in all aspects of fly dressing.

This is a great opportunity for anyone who wants to learn to be a better tier. Join your local group and if they are not doing anything in the way of instruction them get them started, I can assure you there will be at least one good tier who is happy to showcase his/her skills and lead a group session.

At the Surrey branch we have an active and enthusiastic committee and have come up with some great talks and presentations on all aspects of fly fishing but with the emphasis on fly dressing
In the last 12 months we have held group fly tying lessons on Fridays, ran a Fly dressing competition and held a casting clinic as well as having monthly meetings at Effingham golf club. We would be happy to welcome any new members, either contact me directly of go to the branch website at

The Flydressers Guild

Regards

If you'd only move the Surrey branch to Horley, I'd join in a shot!
