Default Knotting pheasant tail fibres

Struggling to knot the fibres to make legs for hoppers and daddies!
What do you use to tie them or should i just buy pre-tied ones?
Regards
Ed

You can buy tools to knot feather fibres to form legs but I just use a crichet hook to help pull through the ends of the fibre. Also try not to use too short a fibre.

Depends on your time & possibly your conscience. There are plenty of rumours around that both child labour & prisoners tie them for us.

You can buy tools at all sorts of prices from a few pence, to around £50. or make your own special tool for the job out of either tweezers (dental ones work best) or various different types of modified needles/small crochet hooks etc.

Or there again, if you're not arthritic etc learn the simple technique of twisting the fibre to make a loop before pulling the end through with either fingers or a tool.

I have to buy mine, it keeps me from swearing too much.

There was a chap on here who was tying them and doing a blooming good job. But sadly I think he's stopped now.

Cheers

Andy

Just read your post and I know I have got to tie some to-never tried before.

Off I went...mmm awkward little blighters amant they. Took me 2 mins to do one then I hatched a plan...did four in a minute then

Ok put the fat end in the vice. Now get the dubbing needle in the middle of it and bend 1/2 back towards the vice, whilst holding it on the needle give it a gentle tug. Remove the needle and the leg should now be kinked back towards the vice. Grab the loop in your right hand and fiddle the pointy bit back over as if going to tuck back through and knot it...when you look through the loop and can see the pointy end grab a spring loaded fly clip (you know one of them things you put flies on to dry). Insert it through the loop, compress and hook the fibre, pull through gentle. Before you tighten you can still adjust where the knot lands.

Works a treat. Dragons Den here I come!

Umm I just use my fingers... I don't do hundreds of them mind you.

I just make an overhand knot midway down the barb (that's what it is called.. I actually have fairly large hands ) and then position it where I want. 2 Knot legs np.
