Default Shipmans buzzer

After having a fish on a shipmans buzzer, red antron body,blue/blackthorax, last night, first fish on a dry,
I am wondering what do most people use for the breathers on the fly as the polyropelene yarn I had used wasn't floating the fly well enough as it was sinking after about 20 sec in a ripple.

Thanks

Siliconised Polypropylene yarn from Niche is what you want. The perfect stuff for the job.

Flyinghigh,

Have a word with Steve Parton on here, he can supply you with a spool of poly yarn that will float really well.
Use it myself as in this tying Shipmans Buzzer

It was something like that I had used I was given a piece by a friend for tying klinkhammars and the like.

Maybe describing it as a good ripple was an understatement probably more like a small wave.

I use this stuff for my Klinks and Shipmans as well and never had any bother with it. How much are you using for the Shipmans? I let the yarn protrude half a hook length form either end if that helps.

Maybe I cut the breathers a bit on the small side but was wondering about using white foam instead?

White foam isn't as good. It doesn't float as high and by increasing it's length, there may be bother with leader twist when casting.

Increase the amount of yarn and you should be fine. Try putting on some Dilly Wax too, this helps a good bit.

PS, if you want some authentic Niche stuff to try, PM me with your address and I'll send a bit.

The stuff Steve Parton supplies to us mere mortals is the same as he's supplied to Dave Shipman for over 20years.

The Original yarn was a dapping floss which took ages to go under, how do I know, because I used to tye them for dave shipman, seals fur was always used and,the thorax had a small ball of seals fur teazed out .too many people tye them too straight,If you think I am wrong ask dave shipman,he got 500 every week 15 years ago, they took forever to go under, also try them on a sinking line, top dropper, but thats another story

NEW ** SHIPMAN BUZZER FLOSS ** Improves and eases the tying and floating capabilities of the Shipman Buzzer. Our new Tube and Tail Floss is a vast improvement over previous materials

As Supplied to Dave Shipman himself !!! Per bobbin 75p

I have just chopped that from Sparton site ,I guess Steve supplies dave Shipman with some fly dressing materials!
