Question guidance please

Hi all I'm after a bit of help, I fancy having a go at tying my own
flies.. But where do I start what I mean is should I buy a complete
starter kit if so which one? As they seem to range from £20- £150.
Or do you buy a vice and a few tools ect. Any help would be very
much appreciated.

Many Thanks

Colin.

I'm sure others will help you with this but my advice is to decide what flies you want to start tying and then go to a good tackle shop who will sell you just the tools and materials you need to tie those flies. You can then build up your repertoire and add materials and tools as you need them. Don't spend too much on the vice initially as they can get very expensive and use a lot of your budget and a cheaper one like a Regent will be perfectly good to start with.

Hi Colin, If you use the search box at the top of the page, you'll find that the subject of kits has been covered copiously in recent months. Take a look at the following site & see if you're near a branch of The FDG & if so contact the secretary (national one if no local's listed) & see about going along. You'll learn more far quicker here than by any other method & they will help you with exactly what you need in tools & materials.

There's another great site for online tuition videos & that's Gwent Angling Society Mark Roberts, the guy who does their vids, is a first class tyer & teacher for all types of fly.

Try the veniards begginers fly tying kit i havent brought one before but it seems to have some good reviews there should also be a book that comes with it to that gives step by step help to tying flys.

best advice i can give you tho is be confident with the materials and get use to useing a whip finish tool for a safe secure head and remember that the tying thread is stronger than it look last thing you want is a loose fly
