Default Macro or Super Macro

I'm in the market for a new camera to replace my Olympus C-720 which has served me well for the last 10 years , as its only 3 MPixel I know I need at least 12 MP but was wondering whether I need to look at super macro to be able to get the same quality of pictures that are posted on this site.

I called into Currys/PC World today and their "expert" had to turn on each camera to see what type of macro it had, so that was not a lot of help.

I do not need a SLR type as it has to fit in my tackle bag when I'm out fishing.

I can recommend the Olympus tough as an out and about fishing camera, waterproof shock proof takes a resonable quality picture. The macro function works very well. Hope this helps.

12 megapixels and/or super macro is not really required to shoot pictures of flies.

there are times when i use the macro function and other times i use the auto focus function

I quite like my Panasonic Lumix TZ7 as a compact. I took this photo the day that I got it to try out the Macro feature...

This image basically had the camera touching the dandelion.

All of the photos that I've posted on here have been taken with that camera which is better when you put it in the second position and use the Macro Zoom feature.. a shame my lighting isn't great though

I actually got this camera because it also does 720p HD video segments and I bought the dive case... which didn't turn up until about a month AFTER I got back from Dahab

I bought a Panasonic DMC-FS62 Lumix. What I know about digital cameras you could write on your thumbnail. The day I got it I took this, notice the broken barb...

Thanks. Not a lot to do with me though. I simply set it to idiot proof auto, then set to macro zoom and pressed the button. The camera is on Amazon at the mo for 117.00. Just goes to show you don't have to spend big bucks to get good photos of flies. Everything else it does is equally impressive. Point and click, anti shake, anti red eye. Mmm made for idiots like me ha

I have an older pentax optio W20 which takes great macro photos and is waterproof. These midges were snapped on the back of my car window - the hook is a size 16

The pentax range has now moved on I believe the w60 is the best - useful to have a waterproof compact - you just dont need to worry about it - as long as you dont throw it overboard!
Heres a review of a few
