Default F-Flies

Hello all i am going to tie up a few F Flies with different body colours mainly to try & match the small flies i am seeing on the river at the moment. But does the CDC wing colour matter to the trout as it's mainly above the water. Can you just use natural light brown & light grey with various coloured bodies. Cheers

Quite a few of my dry fly patterns use CDC wings, simialr to the F Fly. I use the natural colours and have had a great deal of success with these flies.

Agree with RC - Natural colours all the way.

I have just been watching the Essential Patterns with Oliver Edwards Vol 1. He was sent by Mr F Fly natural Croupions ( Harvested CDC Feathers ) but also in the box was orange and pink F Flies which he said he has great success with Grayling.

Also a week or so ago i showed a picture of a fly i did not very good as i am new to it but i was told that i should use more CDC Feathers but MR F Fly says that you should use 3 feathers on a #10 - 12 hook and 2 on 14 - 16 and 1 feather on #18+ hook. Now i was told that 3 for a size 18 hook was the norm. The fact that Mr F Fly says the above i shall now follow his rule of thumb.

Regards
Ian

It all depends on the quality of the cdc Ian float one in a glass of water and see how long it lasts.

Greenock:
Your quite right, OE tied an F fly with 2 CDC feathers he called Croupions. I used 4 to get the same thickness of feathers on the fly. If you see the dvd i am talking about you will see what i mean about the feathers. Not something you can just pick up at the local tackle shop as they supposedly came from Mr F Fly himself.

Regards
Ian

Hello all i will see how i get on with natural coloured CDC first.I have ordered a Slf Masterclass box but what about hooks. It seems a bit limited on the small hook front with Kamasan.I was looking at Varivas tapered leaders and fly fishing hooks Is the Varivas 2210 & 2300 both good strong hooks.Cheers

the feathers in the o.e video are from the F.fly guy himself, they are the fluffiest cdc or croupions as they call em, iv ever seen!
i agree, atleast 4 cdc make up the same as them on the fly he ties if not more, im yet to look into cdc puffs so maybe they might be closer to the croupions and also the m.p.j cdc's meant to be really fluffy, can anyone comment on either of them?

Tight lines
