Default daddylonglegs

Hi All,

Not really a fly tying question, but has anyone else notice the amount of daddylonglegs for this time of year? They are everywhere in the North of Irleand.Wot's going on!!! They are about 3 months early!! Would be interested to hear if they are showing anywhere else.

Aye Sam,been seeing quite a few knocking around here, not big numbers but more than I would expect to see at this time of year.Ye would have thought the bad winter we had might have snookered them for this year....?

Good observation Sam! And I would say most of the daddy long leg population is stuck to the front of my car!!

Don't think we'll have to wait until Aug/Sept to put a daddy on the bob

This was reported in other posts, somewhere here. Folk more learned than me advised that daddies hatch from spring till autumn depending on the species. Maybe the conditions this year are just more favourable to the early hatching species.

Ta sweeny,

Just read the other thread, and no matter what species they are I can never remember such big ones, and in the numbers at this time of the year.
I was out last night at the local fishery and was getting a fish a chuck on the copydex daddy (and no it wasn't just stocked, thought I'd get that in before some smart a**).As far as the weather goes, it's not that much different from any other year.

I've noticed a few small ones already this year, but I've just got back from a family walk along a local small river and there were quite a few very big ones about! They would have been more noticeable if it weren't for the masses of mayfly - a very impressive sight!
