Default car aerials

Adrian if its small sizes your doing then just go to your local scrapyard and ask for a couple of car aerials or for them to snap them off any cars before they crush them.

Take the aerial apart - then slice all the individual sections in two with a hacksaw (don't forget that there is likely to be petroleum jelly inside the aerial so you will need to use a thin piece of metal or something with a tiny bit of kitchen towel on to get the grease out first) - you will then get 2 cutters of each size (one to use and a spare for each). Then just get a metal file and sharpen the edges slightly on them on one side - then just simply put the other end in an electric drill. Then get an old piece of ply wood or something and put the foam block on top and drill away. You won't get the first couple of eyes quite right but you will soon get the idea and the pills will be smooth enough for most flies. These may not be the most robust cutters but they do the job. I know of someone that actually uses the mouth off a metal kettle to drill his eyes - weird but it works!

This isn't the quickest way of doing booby eyes - theres several machines that you can use to produce the booby eye pills automatically - not a lot of good for individual use though as expensive! I have one I use and foam goes in one side and booby eyes come out other.

hi there,
when im making boobies i cut the foam with boillie punches, just go into any tackle shop and they should have them and the good thing is you can buy a pack of diferent sizes and you get 4 or 5 for about a fiver. plus they have the rod to push the foam out. i just sharpen the edge's with a piece of emeri stone.
hope this helps
