Lovely looking patterns SS, great stuff. I love fishing the olives. Don't forget the simple Hare's Ear nymph, with, ahem.. a JC cheek or a skinny mallard and green. Absolute killers for pond olives and not bad on lake olives either.

Lovely. Can we have the recipes? Two questions:

1. Why no tail on the first?

2. Midlander, what size do you prefer for the pond olive?

Thanks for the comments folks,
I tie them with tails and without, the fish dont seem to mind,a few strands of bronze mallard does fine

Hayabusa 761 #10/12 for the nymph and 373 #12/14 for wet duns or mallard/greens. The nymph is larger than the adult.

Not sure why but I think winged wets just look so damned good, so "traditional". Durable or not, they look great!

One more question and this relates to the hackle. Is it more typical in the case of a winged wet to tie down the hen hackle into a "throat hackle" (as opposed to a "beard hackle" in the second fly above) in order to imitate legs and leave the wings unimpeded?
