Default Trout's eye view?

I was tying up some olive duns and having a look to see if they appeared ok from below....so I thought it might be fun to try to photograph the pattern and photoshop out the retaining clip to supposedly give us the trout's eye view - albeit in glorious technicolour where the fish will in all likelihood see the pattern's silhouette, maybe with a bit of transmitted light coming through depending on overhead light levels.

The conventional view of the fly is shown at the bottom. However, I think we should be paying more attention to the view from beneath.....

I totally agree Matt for dries...

Plus, I think that, where possible, it is worth looking at how the dry fly sits... parachute hackles, CDC wings, loops, traditional hackles all make the fly act so very differently.

With you on that one Dave. How many duns have you seen where their back ends sink below the surface at a 45 degree angle?

Yes I've seen those Steve. To be honest, I usually get by with a pint pot full of water, but it's a good idea all the same.

Just add a sheet of mirror sitting at a 45 degree angle and you've got the same thing. Just don't drink the fly!
