I've just had a very quick look in the 2 books by Richard Walker which I thought contained the pattern, but no luck in either of them.

There's another fly called "The Hoolet" which was around the same time as the M. The Hoolet, was a moth & there's a video by Davy Mc P. on Youtube.

The M. was, I think a similar dressing style but for a great red sedge.

Hi Danny....i know im an old rambler on here so this might look odd....anyhow i tye a big sedge my way on a size 8 long shank but remove tag and add fiery brown to body and palmer red game hackle or similar and change wing to deer hair and you will have a big red brute.

Click the image to open in full size.

Sexy wings for show and rough as dogs nads catches the fish

There is an Irish based sedge article in the new T&S that's worth a look, lots of patterns.

What about a nice big Green Peter or Chocolate drop in relavant sizes?

I don't get the mags but will see can I track down a copy cheers .

What ever pattern it is , it has to be very good at staying on the surface when being pulled and twitched . As fishing in the dark I need to be happy that what I am using stays afloat ....
