Talking polistyrine suspender

right guys i made some buzzers with those little polystyrine balls to susspend them, now they looked rather good if i do say so myself, and they worked a treat yesterday to...but...after a single catch on them the balls were no more!

now when i made them i tryed to use the varnish to hold them in place but once dryed i found the balls had srunk up to next to nothing so i redid them and ran some thread over them and secured them like that.

so is there a better way to hold my balls in place

god im dreading some of the replys to this

If you use the ordinary wood varnish that comes in little tins it doesnt melt the polystyrene. Any solvent based varnish will melt the balls.
It will give a slightly brown tint to the ball but it is not noticable to the fish.

Otherwise use a piece of foam and cut it to shape. The foam cylinders sold for boobies are great.

A third way is to cut foam sheet into 3mm wide strips and tie in a loop at the eye.

Regards

Are you using tights? If not, try purloining a pair from your other half. Women are always ruining their tights so they're not that hard to come by, so long as you know anybody female willing to give up a bit of their underwear...

Just cut a small square out of them. Wrap that square of round your polystyrene ball, and tie in by the loose end of the square. The ball is now trapped to the hook by the mesh of the tightly drawn tights. No varnish required. Mine seem to stand up to trout just fine, though I have to say, my trout catching skills don't make serious demands of it!
