I tie these very occasionally for clients but charge double normal price as I find them a real pain. Olivers flies are great works of art and well thought out but I don't consider them commercially viable. If you tie them all day every day then maybe you could produce fast enough but as he says in his book...."you should have one or two of these in your box"

I haven't yet encountered a situation where I felt that the footprint dun was the only way I was going to catch fish and I'm sure a sparse parachute pattern will do just as well.

And as for the Mohican Mayfly.........

Regards

I do find the footprint dun sometimes gives the edge over a normal para pattern. I can identify a number of occasions when I have put all the usual para Adams etc. over a fish and then had it come up first time to a footprint dun. It is difficult to see why that should be so but it has happened.

They are not that fiddly to tie (certainly when compared with the Mohican May). I find that they do not float for long so they really are only for the occasional cast to the picky fish that has alreay refused a conventional pattern.

I don't think they are worth the hassle imho! i agree with earlier comments that a sparse paradun will work just as well.
Is it not just down to the right size and colour that make fish switch on?
