Default Landrail sub??

Any ideas what I could use as a landrail/ corncrake secondary sub?

I've got some cock pheasant wings and a few of the tertiaries aren't too bad, but they're more buff orpington than landrail pink.

Hi Alex, Veniard's used to do a sub, that was a pair of starling wings dyed a pale orangey colour.

Cheers for the quick reply John. I've seen those but I'm a bit dubious. Can you think of anything else?

I'll tell the lads to bring you back the real thing when they go up to Uist Eck....common as muck up there....

I'm stumped mate....I don't think there is a decent sub for it...?
What do you have in mind for tying up with it.

That would spoil the surprise Ja-mes my old fruity. I could tell you but then I'd have to kill you. You'll find out soon enough.

If you can get it, American Woodcock underwing does the job. Its good enough for Oliver Edwards......

Regards

Hi again Alex, Sorry but have been out this morning. Have you given Steve Cooper a call as he occasionally can have something buried away in his stocks. Even if it's not the real thing, it'll probably be as close as you're likely to get.

Would that not be for hackling Chris?

Cheers for the input lads, very much appreciated. I knew it would be a tough one.

I think the best sub is Cinnamon Partridge Tail - especially if you can find some on the darker end of the range

Cheers for that Steve. I checked most things that I have but didn't even look at the base of my Partridge skins. Certainly more "pink" than the cock pheasant secondary/tertiary. That should give you a hint Jim...a traditional fly with pink in the title.
