I was lucky enough to win a rod and fly box in a magazine competition this month, and it ocurred to me that the fly I entered owes a lot to the forum. Although I don't comment very often on flys posted here, it's my favourite part of the site and inspires a lot of my tying.
So for the fly, the basic pattern comes from Stan's, (
Trouthaven) Scottish pattern book, the Drennen wet fly supreme hooks came from
sloppyloops. I was impressed by the use of hotspots rather than tails on many flys posted here, and another poster, (can't remember who), posted that he'd had some success with hopper flys and seatrout. Despite the comments in the mag the fly was tied as a wet fly for seatrout, though I have had a few brownies on it over the last couple of weeks.
Like to share the prize with you all, but I'm afraid I will have to restrict it to a few casts with the rod for any visitors to Lewis and Harris, (proof of posting required

), and a wee challenge for new tyers with the fly box as a prize, details later.
Thanks to all posters for your input over the years
