Default Uses of Bustard

What uses are there for bustard as I have been given a bag of them by a friend clearing out his fly tying kit, said he could find much use for them and maybe I might in the future find something to do with them.

There was a series of Bustard patterns, one of which was the Bustard and Orange. The patterns will be in some of the older tying books,I have read the patterns went out of favour only because of the lack of Bustard.

From Ted Malone's book:

Bustard & Orange

Tail: GP tippets
Body: Orange Mohair or seal's fur (tied plump)
Rib: Oval gold
Hackle: Light red cock
Wing: Well marked bustard

Bustard & Yellow

Tail: GP tippets
Body: Yellow Mohair or seal's fur
Rib: Oval gold
Hackle: Ginger cock
Wing: Well marked bustard

These two mainly used in Ireland as an evening or night fly for seatrout but may be taken by browns as a sedge or moth imitation

Apart from anything else I think you might find that possession, no matter how you acquired it, is illegal.

Thanks for the info on that not sure about it being illegal as it is the same with Jungle Cock yet we can still buy it. Sorry arkle but dodn't think I would sell it if it is so hard will keep it safe somewhere and in about 40 years tie when I good enough to tie salmon pattterns I'll use it.

Thanks

To see some typical uses of it, go to the Classic Fly Tying (Powered by Invision Power Board) & look in their salmon tying section, there is a search facility there if you get stuck. You may well see some for sale on eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices & through Feathersmc.com: Home etc.
