Default Pike Fly

This coming week I have decided to have a crack at the Pike. So to mark the occasion I thought I would come up with a fly. I hope you like it and maybe the seasoned Pikers amongst you could give it some constructive criticism. It's about 4.5 inches long. The body material is some stuff I got in Hobby Craft a while ago, I can't remember what it's called. It's quite good, you can style and shape it with a heat gun.
Cheers Dave

Bally's Sparkly Roach

Hook: 4/0 Jap Semi Circle
Body: Some Sparkly Pearly Stuff From Hobby Craft, High Tied
Over Wing: Sparse Oive/Black Supreme Hair
Head: 3D Eyes Locked In With UV Nail Gel

Dave, if you want a cheap as chips decent pike fly hook... do look at the Sakuma Manta... lovely hook and very similar to a Varivas Big Mouth... I use 1/0 thru to 3/0 nothing bigger.

I'm sure sparkly above will catch.

Hi David, it's funny how different anglers have different ideas. I posted this fly on SOL and a guy on there thought it was a cert catcher but personally wouldn't go any smaller than a 6/0, takes all sorts I suppose. I use a lot of Sakuma stainless hooks for my SWFFing but haven't seen the Manta, it looks to be a good Pike hook and as you say, very cheep, as all their hooks are and excellent for the money.

I see you fly fish for the Pike and was wondering what leader setup you use. I was thinking of Singaporean leaders of varying lengths made up of 12lb flouro (makes the tippet 24lb), with an albright to 12" of 20lb AFW Surflon 7X7 and a clip to the fly. I thought this set up would also do for SWFFing in Kos as there is supposed to be Mediterranian Cuda (here's hoping).
Cheers Dave
