Default Furnace Hen Cape / Saddle

I'm looking for either a hen cape or saddle for cruncher and spider type flies in the size range 10 - 16.

I have a Metz hen cape but am finding the feathers very stiff almost making wet flies fish like dry flies. Has anyone got such a thing in stock or can anyone point me in the direction of someone as the places I've looked all seem to be out of stock.

Also looking for moleskin and some thread but the materials don't all have to come from the same source.

Any help appreciated.

Don.

Default hen capes

Hi BD, try gerry at artifly or pearly dabbler, both on here . They both sell hen capes for crunchers etc.

Thanks for replies on and off forum.

This, and Greenwells variants is the kind of fly I'm looking to tie with the cape I'm after so hoping to get one with a distinctive Greenwells colouration.

Click the image to open in full size.

The one I tied this with is a Metz hen grade 2 but I was having bother trying to sink this and even more so ones without a bead at the weekend so am looking for something which is quite soft.

I originally thought the cape I had was a cock cape but when I checked it's a hen

Danny,

I can see where Arkle is coming from and am sure his google search didnae have the typo init.

Thanks for the advice Arkle.

I did a search myself but coulnae find any forumites there who had said items in stock so thought a wee post would be a good idea as I'm trying to get a nice saddle / cape.

" Seek and ye shall find " or so they tell me.

Try Cookshill.

Tell him exactly what you require and he will look after you in indian hen capes.

I got one of Gerry's Furnace capes last year, it was tiny and not very good quality but it was cheap.
I then bought one from Cookshill at BFFI which was around £15 and it was fantastic. Very soft, lots of feathers and a very good range of sizes. It proves you get what you pay for most of the time.
Steve Cooper will pick you out exactly what you want and isn't afraid of saying " I haven't got one" rather than selling you sub standard stuff.

Regards

Ask Steve @ Cookshill. Got some moleskin from him just last week and I'm sure he will sort something out for you re the furnace hen.
