Nice effort.That will catch fish.
The trick with deer hair is to use a small ammount and use a hair stacker to line up the tips.

Bruce that is a good effort and it would certainly catch fish. I concur with seanie with regards to stacking the tips and using a pinch less hair.

Seriously though, nice fly mate. As seanie says, hair stacker will get the tips all aligned. And to stop the hair flaring, use loose wraps to get it in position, then tight wraps behind to nail it down good and proper

i did use a stacker but obviously not tapped it enough, is there any method in my madness for using a dark brown thread as my intention was to create a definite line so as to replicate the joint from head to thorax ?????

Bruce, it's a judgement thing! but about 15-20 hairs on the fly photographed (to remove) But seriously, on your fly there is a clump of hairs on top and where the first group that are shorter than the rest are that's how much could be lost, (much easier if I could just draw a line) but don't get me wrong it would be fine as it is. Also the length of hair is spot on.

And the brown thread band doesn't detract from the fly either, but if you want the band, maybe have it splitting the two colours of dubbing!?

Possibly got some of the underfur still in there Bruce, which will stop the tips aligning properly.... thin the bunch out before stacking, making sure to get rid of any pesky underfur.
