Default 2 Cormorant style lures

I have found big lures a bit of an ass to cast with my lighter rod (5/6#) so am trying to tie up a few small lures that hopefully will be alright.

I think cormorants are a good place to start as they are relatvely simple and effective.

Your comments and advice on how i could imporve these would be greatly welcomed, my own personal criticism is i think they may be a bit heavily winged.

And a Damselly cormoranty thing

They look fine mate.

Another simple little lure would be a sparkler.

Like the idea of the cats whisker variant, will give it a bash.

Dont suppose anyone has the dressing for a sparkler? (Still learning all the names of flies i am afraid).

lureflash - flashabou or something I think it's called. Like loads of strands of tinsel. tie a tuff in for a tail, wrap some round the body and tye a wing in with it then. simplesss

I tied a small black cats whisker (S10 short shank) using fluo green floss for the body covered with varnish. Tried it out the other day, its nice and light and because the body is varnished it sinks quite fast for a light lure. Only had one pull on it mind, but I'm sure it'll work on the right day. Might meet your requirements

Hi Dan

Lovely looking flees, if you want less wing it may be worth trying the tips of marabou feathers, you can pinch the tip of still attached to the centre stem and you get a very fine slimline wing. The only problem is you only get one flee per plume of marabou. The other thing that someone suggested to me only yesterday is to use mink fur rather than marabou not tried this one myself but it may be worth ago

Hope to see you at Wherwell later on in the year.

Tight lines Richard
