I recall reading somewhere that B.B. was an extremly dark claret, the colour of blackberry's. Then it may have been Charles Jardine that published a dressing of the fly in F.F & F.T. saying the colour was a very dark blue, that apperead black until you held it up to the light.

You would go for blackberry given they have a blue hue on them but hold up to the light and dark claret appears, ill maybe do a mix of both

Correct with the very dark blue. TJ (Tommy) Hanna of Moneymore in his book Fly Fishing in Ireland (1933) is adamant that the colour is almost black until held up to the light. He originated it with pig's wool for the body which made it appear quite 'straggley' and I usually attack the seal's fur version with a velcro brush to attain the same effect
