Default Bronze peacock herl

Has anyone experience (successful or otherwise!) of trying to turn green peacock herl to bronze herl . I'm led to believe it can be done by exposing it to direct sunlight for several weeks.....not on a windowsill inside?
If so, do insects / birds have a go at it while it hangs outside??!!
Would be interesting to hear of your experiences........

To turn it true bronze takes ages as we just don't have the intensity of sunshine here. From what I recall some people have left a quill or two on a window for a couple of years only to find very little difference, if any.

Steve Cooper often has the real thing in stock, or you can buy peacock eyes dyed bright pink for a good subs.

I don't know if "the management" would be very pleased if you decided to monopolize window sills with feathers for that period of time.

I've left the green peacock exposed to sunlight fot a couple of months, no difference. The closest I got to bronze peacock is the dyed magenta stuff.
