Hi Madjoni,
May I ask, what is the reason behind using vinegar? Acetic acid won't react with the Picric Acid to help fix it to the material in any way. Although, I may be wrong in this.

Does it work for you?

Regards,
Brennan

After you get right colour, you just add some vinegar....it is same when you paint something with paint for textill(fabric)....only when you do it with textill paint you wait a bit that water(with paint and pheathers) kull a bit and then add vinegar.-....
with picric you dont have to wait to stuff get cooler ...just after while of pheathers been in picric add vinegar....experiment a bit
Another matter, picric acid is bad stuff....it is better for you to avoid that supstance....when picris get dry than can explode...also it is toxic

make sure you wash the material first, dry it
then keep dunking to get it soaked through, leave submerged for atleast
12-24 hours, dry it wash it again if the colour still isnt strong enough then dunk again.
the fading and orange colour comes from sunlight and age anyway
it comes with picric im afraid cant be helped other than keep picric flys and materials out ov direct sunlight, test it! leave a few picric feathers in direct sunlight for a day or 2 then compare to the normal ones you'll see what i mean
this is another good thing about picric you can also get a lovely W.O.I golden olive from it.

be carefull!

An interesting SBS on dyeing feathers the "standard" (i.e. not picric) way is A basic step by step for dyeing fly tying materials.
