Default Wine Diawl Copyn.

Here's a wee one that's done the business for me recently..

Click the image to open in full size.

Hook: Hayabusa 761 or 373; 12
Thread: UNI, black 8/0
Tail: Dark brown cock hackle fibres.
Body: Half stripped peacock herl.
Rib: UTC holo, medium, wine.
Hackle: Black hen dyed scarlet.

On a 373 on the top dropper it accounted for 4 out of 7 fish to 4 1/2lb, including three browns, on Sunday. A good start I reckon.

The wine was part of part of mine and Rob's regular materials swaps but I think it's available from Neil at Angus Angling.

That is a cracking fly.
I know you had a good day with it, but I think it would have to be a middle dropper or point fly on my team of 3.
The main thing though is that it catches fish. I'm going to try it for brownies this week and let you know how I get on.

will be haunched over the vice tonight trying to tie a few of those, when you say half stripped peacock do you mean strip a bit miss a bit or just a general thinning down of the herl?

Yep, it's a middle dropper pattern if drifting with wets but I was fishing straight line buzzers so the top is the obvious choice. Let us know how you do. The wine seems to be a good deal more robust than the standard red holo which'll be handy with the brownies sharp wee chompers.

Thanks for that. Yeah good fly for straight lining.
Also my fingers have a full set of elastoplasts as it is!

Agree with everyone before me - looks the part & guess who else is going to be hunched over a vice later.
Cheers.

I couldn't find wine holo on Anderson Angling's site Alex- anyone else got a link for some? Certainly looks like a killer pattern and I must have that holo!
