Default Tomah Joe

Saw this fly on UKFlydressing and thought the wing, Barred woodduck was ideal for a duck fly. Got some from Cookshill and initially folded the slip. BUT IT NEVER LOOKED Right. Too thick though the slips were only a centimetre and uneven when folded.
Tonight I took two slips from opposite feathers about 2mm wide and they look bril. The fibres are soft but quite thick and very well marked. I would post a photo but dont have the camera for it.
Has anyone else experience of this feather? To me it is a cracker because of it's contrast and the different shades in the fibers.
I dont want to go mad with the few I have left because they are a bit pricy-dearer I think than Grade A JC.By the way the feathers from Cookshill were excellent and I certainly am happy to get materials from them again. Service good too

I've some of these feathers lying in a box somewhere - always mean to try them - but haven't got around to it YET. I bought them on ebay a few years ago - and they were expensive, though the seller threw in some freebies.

Do you have a link to the one on UKFlydressing?

"Tomah-Jo - Old Flies - Fly Angler's OnLine week 169 "
Better learn to use the links!
You can find it by a search on UKFlydressing Guy called Airodnack posted it. Have just seen it. Sometime mid December 2009

It's not easy to analyse where the problem is without a clear pic, you know "a pics worth a 1000 words" etc. However there is another thread in UKFD's beginners section which may help, called "winging problems" See if that's of any help for you.

Someone on this forum told me to roll a slip. I felt it too thick and uneven. Taking 2 slips from opposite feathers 2mm wide produces a much nicer wing for me
