Default Bulk threads of FleeBay any good?

Hi everyone AND A BIG HELLO i am new to the forum and finding it very addictive..hmmm, rather be fishing..

Been on the Fly for a few years now, and still learning loads. Thought i would have a go at tying my own flies. Have got a cheapish Lureflash kit to start..and not sure i should of bothered.

Had a go for the first time today after swatting up and found the threads were breaking...absolute c**p..!!**
Resulted to some red sewing thread the Mrs had in her sewing box.
Made a handful of epoxy buzzers and they came out a treat.
Crikey...i am going on.

Anyhow has anyone had experience of the bulk thread deals on Ebay at the moment, you know the ones 60 or 70 spools for less tham £15.. fishingmad do one.. I dont want to waste my money. Are they any good

Found a Dyna King Pro in USA for half the price, still boxed so cant wait to get mt hands on it.
Can anyone reccomend some good quality tools. The things i got with the kit seem like they were made in India me thinks..
tight lines Pete

Hey. Regarding your threads breaking, you might want to reduce the tension on your bobbin holder. I've found that helps a lot. I'm afraid I can't speak for the quality of threads on EBAY.

Pete
Those bulk threads are pretty poor stuff - best sticking to uni thread or UTC.

The Hell with UNI they only copied me 20 years ago !

Try Sparton ( cheap on ebay ) , wait a couple of months and try deliberately breaking thread so you know what pressure you can exert and then finally go to a Ceramic Bobbin Holder as opposed to the cheap far eastern Rubbish Bobbin holders commonly supplied in kits !

( Kits , btw, are how wholesalers get rid of stuff they wouldn't dare sell to real flydressers ! )

Best wishes

Steve Parton

Steve, is the Sparton thread splittable? I find if I use a dubbing loop it can end up a bit bulky, so I am looking for some thread which I can split.
Cheers,
Gary.

Gary & Fishypete,

I now use Sheer 14/0 for most of my tying - very little build up, VERY strong for its size and being multi strand, it splits very easily - great for tying with CDC fibres and for working with spiky dubbing such as Argentinean Hare ...

I tie down to size 24 with Sheer and also use it for tying off under the hackle for Klinkhamers - no need to swap threads.

In stock you know where!

Kind regards
