Default good day at welsh fly fair

what a great day out, a first for me to visit a fly fair, as they are normaly so far away. thought i was doing ok with the fly tying, but can see ive a long way to go. i spent some time looking at all the tyers, i was amazed by the standard of them all, i was particularly amazed at gwlim hughes trout flys, as trout fishing is my first interest, jonathan jones sewin flies were something to see, and did you know moc morgan dosnt use a vice , i would have liked to have seen more of john grayhams flies but he was being mobbed by all those sewin men who wanted to look at the jambo. didnt get a chance to see the casting demos, had to shoot off to work.
spent a few quid though had a couple of nice capes from celtic fly craft, and a few books from coch y bonddu, to see me through my night shifts next week, any one else go along. im hoping it becomes an anual event

Yep, I watched him do a nice Coch-Y-Bonddu and a very minimal little parachute fly, with a little special bit that I'm going to replicate later.

Default Very good day

I agree! The Welsh Fly Fair was a good day out and it appeared to be well supported by local anglers and travelling anglers. I thought it was well organised and I hope that they receives plenty of positive feedback so that it becomes an annual event

Have to agree,Very well supported, well worth going and long may it continue, As for the parachute flies Mr Hughes was tying, i had to borrow his glasses to see them.

Default Thank you

Just a quick note to say thanks again to everyone who came to see us at the Welsh Fly Fair. What a lovely event it was. We really enjoyed meeting our Welsh customers and meeting some new ones! A huge thank you to all those customers who came armed with gifts of welsh cakes for Ann. They really helped to get me through a very busy day!

Fantastic event. Only started fly tying last year and it was like being a kid in a candy shop. Just wish I could have made it in the morning too as I simply ran out of time. I can't wait for next year and understand it could be a two day event. It certainly looked to be a successful day to me and I hope all the existing exhibitors want to come back next year. A big thanks to Celtic Flycraft who I understand organised and paid for the event. A big thank you to the fly tiers many of whom contributed their time for nothing I believe. Ray Lockyer's slideshow had a wealth of information, fantastic photos on entomology and was very well presented. I would also like to pass my thanks to Andy at Essential Fly and Dai Jones for invaluable advice and generosity.
