Traditional Dry River Flies Swap (with a fund raising twist to help the WTT / Softmouth Trout).
Update: this one is almost complete now, photos are on page 18 but still a few still to come in; Guest Tyers are still welcome to offer a few flies, as the final auction will be in June (exact date tbc).
Thanks to Anderson Angling for donating a fly box to XL50
Start Date 02nd April 2010 – photo results will be posted at the end.
The suggestion is for 'traditional dry river flies' or at least a 'classic' (whatever that means?) as I'm bending that rule already. The level is loosely described as intermediate but we’re looking at as good a quality as each tyer can manage.
12 tyers are included and 2 extra done to go into a kindly donated fly box for auction; this is in order to raise funds for the
Wild Trout Trust ‘Souftmouth’ study visit.
‘Guest Stars’ are more than welcome to add just a couple of flies to the box if they wish to and tie anything 'river related', as we will be running a series of fly types.
Put simply, that's
14 flies from each participant in the main swap group, run like any other swap but any donations towards the fund raising will be greatly appreciated from guests.
Chosen pattern to be confirmed over the next week.

End Date Saturday 24th April 2010
i.e. Flies to be received here in sunny Gloucestershire by Saturday 24th April; aiming to post them on Weds 21st would be good, if they're posted from across the water, then perhaps a little longer.
If I've got them all on the Saturday 24th, they'll be photographed and posted on the forum / returned in the Royal Mail circa Monday 26th.
A small SAE Jiffy bag works well (sent inside a plain envelope). From our experience with the previous swaps, it's also good to include a small but well proportioned plastic hook box for safe delivery and return of flies (I'll return exactly what is sent to me, bear in mind that the packages might get rolled through all sorts of machinery in a central sorting depot).
Please remember to fix return postage on your SAE.
This panel will be updated during the swap to keep everyone informed of progress; I'll PM the postal address out later by request.
Additional info: the Wild Trout Trust have agreed to run a ‘funding ring fenced’ trip to Montenegro, in order to investigate the future of the ‘Softmouth’ Trout which has previously been listed as extinct but has now been rediscovered – funds will go directly to that aim and nowhere else, so this is a very tangible charity donation; the best flies will be put up for auction in a Fly Box donated to XL50 via Anderson Angling. It is envisaged that other swaps will add into this charity fly box, which will be put up for auction in circa 8 weeks (tbc).
No need to worry about including donations if you’re not interested. Any money sent here should be accompanied by a PM to XL50 for accounting purposes (to keep things above board). Larger sums can be sent direct to the WTT but should be clearly marked for the
Balkan Softmouth Trout Study.
... as ever, any questions / issues then please PM me.
