Default Can you tie a Griffith's Gnat as a wet fly?

Hi everyone,
I've bought a grizzle cape in order to tie a few Griffith's Gnats. Being the unthinking wally that I am I ordered a wet cape. Now, obviously I could try returning the cape from where I got it from, but being one of those fly-tyers who love to collect bits and pieces I'm loathe to do that! Can I tie the Griffith's Gnat as a wet fly for rivers? If not, can you suggest any wet flies that I could use it for on rivers?
Thanks,
Mike

Well, you definitely can tie it as a smallish palmer, but the main appeal of the Gr. Gnat fished dry as I see it is the suggestive way it dimples the surface when it sits upon it. That is hard to reproduce with a wet fly.

I can think of many dry patterns with grizzly hackle, but not a single wet; its niche in wet flies seems to have been taken over by Partridge The best use for the cape I can think of are wings from small feather tips and streamers from largish fethers.

If someone has a better idea I would be glad to learn

Mike,

You can use the grizzle hen to tie some Soft hackled Woolly Worms - a pattern originating from the US and a superb fly - pretty simple to tie as well.

Spiders Plus - Online shopping - Your chosen fly Details Worm (Soft hackled) - Rick Osthoff - 4 Flies

Vary the colour of the tail to turn it into an attractor pattern - the hackle folds against the body when the pattern is being retrieved - really looks alive in the water.

Kind regards

Thanks guys for the suggestions. I'm going to tie some woolly worm and pennell-type flies tonight and tomorrow and hopefully on Monday I'll be able to try them out on the Tamar. Thanks again for the suggestions.
Cheers,
Mike
