Sliding indicator fly for NZ Style
Hi
Questions have been asked about adjusting the depth of the nymph whilst fishing using the New Zealand style without cutting the tippet material.
How about a sliding indicator fly – something like a balloon caddis.
OK let me try and describe mine.
1. Select a 4 foot length of tippet material of the preferred breaking strain
2. Tie a perfection loop or very small ring onto the tippet which you will eventually tie to the leader.
3. Hook in vice
4. Tie onto the full length of the shank of the hook a thin strip of foam, this stops the tippet material “pig tailing” when the fly is run up and down the tippet.
5. Pass one end of the tippet through the eye on the hook and using the tying thread tie it down onto the foam on the shank quite tightly, check often that the tippet will slide though the foam not too tight but not to slack.
6. Slide the perfection loop or ring up to the eye
7. Now build up your fly, as I said a balloon caddis is perfect.
8. Once the fly is complete it should slide up and down the tippet.
You can tie the nymph on now if you want and store away ready for the waterside.
I have been questioned about what happens when a fish takes the dry fly, well quite simply the fly slides down the tippet and stops at the nymph. You are not fishing at any great depth.
Just an idea???
Cheers
Steve
