Default Recommendations for a Size 24 Fly

What would you tie on a size 24 for a chalkstream with small wild fish?

Giffiths gnat or a knotted midge.

I can think of many pithy, silly answers, but will resist. i would guess at that size your imitating small terrestrial, aphids, or micro sedges.
Within my limitations i would tie a thin strip of Closed cell foam, with tiny pinch of gaurd hair for legs and secure it mid shank with a few turns holding a length of or floruo Aerowing or similar sniped down to a V shape as a wing or a sight.
Also F fly are a doddle at this size and cover a lot of bases.

Dont forget to off set your hook on these small sizes for a better hook up. ( and do it before you start tying)

Or if you wish to push to yourself

Oliver Edwards para-dun. This is on a size 22 Varivas IWI S2000

If the stream in question contains grayling you should seriously consider small ants in sizes 20+; the ladies just love them!

Don't resist: help yourself! I'm actually thinking of trying a reverse muddler with triple salco.. I only got the hooks because they were there: I haven't worked out how to tie them onto a line yet.

I take it off-setting is making sure the point doesn't point in the direction of the eye?

Not entirely sure why I couldn't think of a Griffiths on my own: I've got loads (and with all sorts of variations) in my box in 16 and 18.

A paradun in size 24? I'm up for that, but I think I'll reverse it :-)

Some good suggestions!

Don't over complicate things, in size 24 a bit of black thread and a tuft of CDC is all you need. (F Fly)
I also tie them with yellow thread.

make sure the tippet you tie on comes off the front of the hook and not the back as the spade will cut through the fluoro/mono
