Default Diawl Bach help

Hi all
When tying your Diawls is it best to use 1,2 or 3 peacock hackles.
Dont know if it the fly looks right with a slim or fatter body

Thanks Gazza

Forgot to mention mainly tying on size 12 hook.

Default Diawl Bach

Personally, I prefer a slim body on my nymphs and so I would only use one or two pieces of peacock herl for the body depending upon hook size.

In the case of Nymphs I think less is more.

Tie 'em in by the tip ends - best chance of a thinner and nicely tapered end product

Best wishes

Agree, & I would also add fine wire for ribbing, otherwise fly is chewed to bits after a fish or two.

To Rib or no to rib that is the Q

One herl for me, finish the fly then scrub it a little with a rubber....very nymphy looking. The sparser the better.

I've had a go at the standard fly and some popular variations on it, but I'm never really happy that I've got the proportions right - so I've got lots of different shapes and sizes to try.

Keep it slim is always best down here in the west country, so only one herl for me.
I put a dab of varnish along the body before tying the peacock in as that helps to make a more robust fly as well.
The rib could be thin wire, clear nylon, flexi floss or tinsel. Endless variations on a simple but very effective fly.
