Default Lightning Bug on YouTube

Had a go at making a YouTube video today, be kind, it's my first attempt and I only have 10 mins on my account which made it hard because I wanted to spend some time talking about some of the things I find make the tying easier.

Although a simply fly to tie, I found the experienced very rushed indeed and even with splitting the thing into two segments (allowing the varnish to dry) and topping and tailing the segments it ran to 10 mins 20. Had to actually run the video through the processing at 106% speed so I sound (to myself) like I'm on Helium.

I had a good close view set up too and found afterwards during the tying that a lot of things looked pretty tatty.

I guess what I'll try next time is an exercise where I'll do segments that can be more easily stitched together and then do the voice over after I have finished.

Last time I checked it was still saying that it was processing the higher quality versions but it's past the rough bits.

Let me know if you have any extra tips.

Regards,

-Andy
(btw, my other video's under the handle 1nf0fr34k are about Knots if anybody is interested)

I wouldn't worry too much about extending the time beyond 10 minutes, most people won't have the patience to watch much more than that (except for us anoraks on here)

Also, perhaps a light blue or biege shirt would make it easier to see the finer details of the tying, I found the dark one you wore made it difficult.

I've been tying my LBs with tungsten beads rather than lead wire, I find it makes for a slimmer fly for the same weight.

Brilliant first attempt, keep at it!

Great advice Shuck Raider, I didn't see your comment until today and was looking whilst I was processing my next video which I had already shot... in another black polo shirt and this one really would have been a LOT better with your suggestion.

It's still processing at the moment but I'll post a link when it finishes. It's my Woven Body Mayfly with Wally Wings. This time I did it in lots of segments without audio and did the voice over afterwards. This was much better for distilling out the relevant bits. Even if folks don't like it they may use it as a howto for Wally Wings I figure

ah, if only I had everything Davie McPhail has for his videos..

1. Great Lighting.
2. Good camera setup.
3. HUGE TALENT...

That guy is a star, shares some fantastic knowledge and produces some awesome stuff!
