Default Butchers Spider ??

Hi Guys

I was tying up a few Butchers the other day and it struck me a nice combination for a spider pattern, similar to the leven spider which has proved so deadly

Anyway im very pleased with them on B175 size 12 although i shall drop down on the size 14's.

Dont know if this pattern has a name or not but Butchers spider will do me cant wait to try the out.

Think there was a thread on here a few weeks back where it was decided that pattern was called the Priest. Certainly, I have a few in my box from 20 years ago, and my first outing as a fly fisher.

As you can imagine, putting "priest" into the forum search function to find the thread in question isn't exactly fruitful...

The priest spider was one of the stages that I was taken theough when I started tying flies. As said it was a silver butcher without a wing. Once this was mastered we moved on to putting on the wing. Mallard blues are not the easiest of feathers to work with though.
P.S. nice spiders that you have shown.

My mate 'flyfishwithme' showed me an old grayling spider pattern titled 'The Priest' today which is similar and older:

But you have reinvented it beautifully.

I regularly use a GREEN priest early season
Basically green lurex on wet varnised thread and a longish black hen hackle.
Simple but effective
