Legend?..... Totally agree!
I have learned more from Davie in the last year than i have learned in over 40 years of fluff wrapping!
I am amazed at how much stuff he can cram into that last millimetre of the fly!

However, what makes Davie special, is that he shares his considerable knowledge and experience freely and with great clarity. Also, any sensible query is replied to informatively and graciously.

Seems to be a nice bloke and a great fly tyer but I will reserve the Legend bit as that usually only comes about once people have died.

And whispering in their ears
Give them unquiet dreams;
Leaning softly out
From ferns that drop their tears
Over the young streams.
Come away, O human child!
To the waters and the wild
With a faery, hand in hand,
For the world's more full of weeping than you can understand.

Have to agree with that observation. As far as I know he is alive & kicking.
No doubt he is a fine fly tyer. Thing I like about him is that he can handle most disciplines. Some tyers that "get a name" are only as good as their creations but give them something else to do & they struggle on occasion. Not all but some. Many good tyers the world over & because of this medium we get to see them more often than say 20 yers back when we had to rely on books & magazines.
Other tyer that falls into the Mc Phail category is the American Charlie Craven.

I sometimes look at old copies of FF&FT and see his name high up in the fly tying competitions run ten years ago and more!
