Nice fly!

Lawrence Finney has developed wire weaving to good effect on trout waters in Ireland (see this months TotalFlyFisher)... this is one of Lawrence's ties from the Spring Fly Fair... the wire has been coated with Bug-Bond... if you want to see the supersize photo it is available through my blog.

I certainly like the effect and if the body is given a few coats of varnish it should be pretty robust. Is bug bond a varnish or one of the many super glue variants?

I'm not sure how this ribbing would sit with international rules and whether the ribbing actually adds any more weight to a fly than you'd get from just using heavy wire hooks. Nice flies all the same.

The tying sequence for the weave looks non existant in Todays Flyfisher !

Good edition this month though , more than usual for us river fishermen?

No to both of those... Bug-Bond is a UV resin and the only one with a non tack finish designed for fly-tying... the body was set in 3.5 seconds...

Ah, yes sorry, didn't spot the link in the sig. IIRC Rod Tye used it on a series of flies a couple of years ago. It may have been marketed under a different name though?

It's never been under a different name... brand new fluid and one of the highest tech fluids out there... UV technology has been available since the 1960s but only now is it really coming of age...

A nice robust pattern there and fish food no doubt! ... To a beginner this 'yet another' Cruncher pattern will only confuse eh? Not being over critical but the 'original' Cruncher has red game tail... PT body with fine silver wire rib.. thorax of claret hue Peacock herl.. and Greenwell hackle (badger)... Anything else tied differently is just a nymph...

Your nymph looks a great idea
