Jon

They represent nothing in particular and are just ideas I come up with.

Experiment with different threads and quills.

(I hope this is doesn't turn into a hijack as it's a little OT. Appologies but it's not unrelated.)
What makes a spider a spider? I've seen nothing in what I've read to suggest they are tied to resemble arachnids, and in many cases they clearly look nothing like our 8 legged friends. Or am I missing something?

Spider is probably misleading as most of these sparse patterns are not tied to represent spiders at all.

I think the name originated from North Country Spiders used in the north of England for centuries.

These are not the traditional spider tyings but deadly variations of them.

The probably should be more aptly called sparse wet flies.

All stiff cock hackles - Just experimenting on spiders for the stillwaters

Soft Hackles are much better for movement but its just me mucking about as usual - When Nyah gives me peace I get some time to tie

I have lots of soft hackle jobbies for the burns so I thought why not something different
