Default Sandeels - what colour are they? (Here's some Sili Skin versions)

What colours are the naturals and what colours do you find the most effective?

Here's a couple of Sili Skin versions:

are the colours for me... however... I'd thought about doing the blue version as a baby mackerel version and also black/orange and a black/dk grey with silver... but I'm mainly a chartreuse tart

Really nice ties by the way!

Cheers guys.

What colour are actual Sandeels? (or Sand Eels?)

The only photos I've seen show an almost blue-to-black top side and silver to white belly.

Oops just found this:

Like most things Steve I reckon its dependant on what ground they are over... the bottom type is the more usual that you'd find in a frozen bait pack...

Hi....I've been busy with the UV gel again....This time I've tied a Burrowing Sand Eel.... I found something similar on FlyTying.com.... The hook shank is weighted Clouser style with 2 split shot that dig into the sand (didn't have any lead dumbells).... The hook fish's shank down and when twitched, kicks up the bottom..... The fly fish's nose down like a fleeing Sand Eel trying to burrow into the sandy bottom.
Cheers Dave

I tend to keep mine to 3 1/2 to 4 inches in length. Looks like I should go a little longer... I'm also going to reduce the belly filler to get a leaner profile like the real thing. I use Tiemco 811S size 2 or preferably Gamakatsu SS15 hooks.
