Default weighted bugs

I thought i'd have a go at making some heavily weight nymphs so yesterday purchased from Orvis some 5/32 tungsten beads and some size 16 nymph hooks.Yes i know i can buy cheaper from elsewhere but i thought i'd have a go today.Well the bead doesn't go round the bend of the hook or over the eye.Is there a knack or wrong sized bead for wrong sized hook.Obviously new to this Cheers for any help Steve
