I'm a big fan of hotspot crunchers, you can use them anywhere, and yours look pretty good to me. I like the little pinch of dubbing in behind the hackle, very subtle .
I do mine with a peacock herl thorax, with either biots or floss as 'cheeks' or without herl and either floss or tinsel for the hotspot.
