Default dry fly for beginners

heya

sorry if this topic has been covered before but the search function had not brought anything up! I have been tying for a few months now and have got a grip on the basics required to tie a passable fly (major room for improvement yet though!) I am wanting to try and branch out into adding a few dry fly techniques to my repertoire and was wondering which ones you would recommend for beginners, I fish small lakes and reservoirs mainly if that helps at all.......

Shipman's Buzzer?
I like the impressionistic vibe and it apparently catches a power of fish.

Hoppers are easy to tie and they catch loads.

Try some form of dry daddy long legs. Most waters get the naturals for some period,
You tie them an a size 12 up so its easy to get your hands around,
And the half drowned fly is as scruffy as ..... So it doesnt matter too much.
Tying knots in pheasants tail for the legs is an 'interesting' technique to get your head around.
And finally when you fish them the takes are usually explosive.

Griffiths Gnat, size 18. Fairly simple to tie (in a size 16) and very useful to have in the box. Size 18 and smaller is more of a challenge to tie but in my experience makes a better catching fly..

I would also suggest a look at bigbadtroutfisher's last flies - a sort of easier klink with no hackle wrapping round a post. In order, a simple body (hare's ear say) a simple hackle and then a bunch of clipped CDC at the eye at 45 degrees to the shank (or even horizontal). Hook sits in the water like this: J
