Here is two Octopus patterns that were recommended to me for Donegal Seatrout and especially for Carramore, Bangor Erris,

I would say they would work on Melvin.However if fishing Carrowmore I wouldn't be without a Clan Chief, excellent for the springers in an 8 or a 10!!!
