Default Who is your favourite Fly Tyer?

Without doubt my favourite is Davie McPhail closely followed by Oliver Edwards. I have been fortunate enough to see both of them demonstrating their tying skills. Davie at the GAC on a number of occasions and Oliver at the British Fly tying fair , last year.
So then , who is or are your favourites?

Phil White for styling, Paul Little for outragious technical ability and knowledge, Paul proctor for innovative 'fishing' flies.

Peter Gathercole used to be the mutts nuts & was tying near perfect flies in the 80's.

For patterns I like Roy Christie and Dave Wiltshire and there's someone in Basingstoke who's patterns I saw once. But can't find them again..

The two former also develop useful techniques that the aspiring tyer can pick up without too much difficulty.

All joking aside, is that why you get into tying in the first place, to make patterns/flies that suit your purposes better than what’s available elsewhere?

I am not convinced I would fish with as much confidence if I didn’t have my own selection, so yeah me to

Agee on Phil White and Paul Little...... but Proctor Sterile, lifeless affairs. And anyone who doesn't put a body hackle on a dabbler, and then publishes it, and calls it a Dabbler, ain't getting my vote.

I don't really have a 'favourite' tyer as such. It's all as much about what you're into, and thinking and style, as it is about technical skills... it's taken me 20 years to to reach a decidedly average standard, and the bulk of that improvement has happened in the last three years since joining this forum and interacting with the likes of Wee Jim, Greg, Ben etc.
Here's three guys though, that I hold in very high esteem for their touch, style, thinking and fieindish skills - Alex (Midlander), George Barron, and Stan Headley. All three of them make me sick the way they can tie a simple, forgotten traditional pattern and make me drool like fat old pig confronted with a bowl of strawberries and cream!
