Dave Wiltshire, Ben, Scratch, Ulf Hagstrom, Leon Guthrie, Arkle (when he pulls his finger out!) Dai Jones, Midlander, Captain Scarlet, Gerry, The Irish crew (too numerous to mention everyone), Greenoch, Dabhoy, Bill Logan, Andres Touceda, Gary Lafontaine, McPhaill of course, Chris Helm, Hans Weilman, Hans Drool, Roy Christie, Roger Woolley, Nick Runarsson, Rene Harrop, Bob Wyatt, Hans van Klinken, Davie Wootton, Paul Willock, Niklaus Dahlin, Terry Phillips and a whole host of tyers names that I have forgotten. But there is one who possibly stands out on all the disciplines IMHO and that is Scotfly.

Hope I haven't offended anyone.

For salmon work, it'd be difficult, but Steve Fernandez has to near the top of the tree. Having said that there are at least another dozen or so that come very close indeed.

Hans de Groot, the Dutchman, was the fly dresser who gave me most encouragement in my early days dressing salmon flies. The hairy one was a genius. Hans was taken from us,years ago,way too soon.
Still have his original nymph skin. I believe Hans was the first to develop this product, years ahead of the alternatives we have now.

Can't say really. Haven't seen enough from each.

I like specific flies. Patterns that inventively use more traditional materials and do a good job are my favourites. I'm not a stickler for the classic patterns but I'm not a great fan of foam and prefab components etc.

For me it's Oliver Edwards and Steve Thornton, they both tie the sort of flies I like.

Brian Dawson for giving us fly fishers in the North a lure that works on most waters year in year out.
Midlander for his wets and nymphs.
Scratch for his creations with blending colours in his flies and photography.
Ruthvenflyfisher for his muddlers and his bright colours.
Captain Scarlet for his buzzers.
Frank Sawyer who taught me from his books to tie nymphs the first fly I ever did was the PTN.
All the tyers on this Forum who make the time to tie and show their works of art.

Thanks Robbie

Haha joni.... i have 300 flies size 14 and 16 lost in my pops house somewhere.... i left them there after fishing rights were bought up by selfishiness on my favorite rivers.Dont be fooled though a lot of what i have shown you do work very well in rivers in smaller sizes and some as they are mate.

For me it has to be Davie McPhail having watched many of his tying vids on youtube, folloed closely by Paul Little (Chairman of Lakeland Fly Dressers Guild) for his Salmon flies (works of art).
