I rather disagree with my earlier comments. I was thinking, in bed last night, as one does when there's a beautiful woman beside you, that flies catch more fisherman than fish: we tend to be attracted by attractive patterns (Yes, dear, later) with interesting tyings or materials. The fish I thought as I re-adjusted my pillow (In a minute OK?!), probably don't care too much about the quality of the saddle of the CDC.
And one of the nice things about the Klink is that it represents a milestone in ones fly-tying journey (tomorow's fine. Get your factor to speak to my factor. Goodnight) because it's a slightly tricky tie and a very good fly.
However, I can't see why flies such as those above shouldn't do the job better and with a little less labour at the vice. The first fly would fit the bill for this.
I also seem to remember Phillip of flyfishwithme fame, was developing flies that sat with the hook vertical in the water for various reasons.
I'd be very interested to know if they fish just as effectively as a Klink: good ties in my (fairly limited, I admit) opinion!
