OK, so on another thread (
What is this wing style known as and is it even practical for fishing?) I asked about a beautiful wing pattern which turned out to be the Wally Wing. Many thanks to Dave Wiltshire for correctly identifying it.
The results look daunting. I did find a link to Wally Lutz' instructions on how to do it so last night I soaked a duff hackle that was sitting in my waste bag and found that it stripped quite easily.
Today I decided to have a go at doing it. I chose to use a Partridge feather since I have only been tying a couple of months and don't have a good enough grizzle cape to do this with.
Firstly the wings.. after 10 mins soaking they went on beautifully. (apologies for not photographing the mounting and stripping process but since this was the first attempt I wanted to strip the skin from the quill whilst it was still wet).
I did find though that you need to mount them nearer the eye than you usually would. In this attempt they are too far back but it is my first go.
The rest of the fly dressed (apologies for the lighting and focus... I must sort out something better).
and the finished Wally Adams..
This was a test fly but for those interested..
